S. Korean Consortium Wins Contract to Build LRT in Jakarta

A South Korean consortium has won the contract to help build an urban public transport system in Indonesia.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said on Monday that the consortium led by the state-funded Korea Railway Network Authority will participate in the construction of the first stage of the Light Rail Transit(LRT) system in Jakarta spanning five-point-eight kilometers.

The Jakarta government plans to build a 110-kilometer LRT system, and the first-stage section will open in August of 2018.

Indonesian companies will build the railway of the first-stage section, while the Korean consortium will help provide the operating system.

The Korean consortium was named the preferred bidder for the first-stage of the LRT project in November of last year.
