BOK Head Says He Remains Alert about N. Korean Nuke Issue

Bank of Korea(BOK) Governor Lee Ju-yeol says he remains alert about the progress of the North Korean nuclear issue, closely monitoring its potential impact on the financial market and the local economy.

Lee made the remark on Thursday in a meeting with reporters prior to an exhibition of BOK-published books at Seoul National University.

Noting that the risks associated with the North Korean nuclear issue are constant, the central bank’s head said he stays alert about the development of the issue with a resolve to minimize its possible ramifications on the financial market and the economy.

He said North Korea risks, which he calls the biggest concern for the BOK for now, have caused financial market fluctuations, leading to a significant drop in stock prices and a sizable rise in the won-dollar exchange rate.
