Samsung Unveils Memory Technology Capable of Storing 70 Movies on 1 Chip

Samsung Electronics on Tuesday unveiled a flash memory solution that has the largest capacity in the world.

The electronics giant disclosed, for the first time, its one-terabyte vertical-NAND(V-NAND) solution at this year’s Flash Memory Summit in Santa Clara, California. With the solution, 70 movies can be stored on one single chip.

One terabyte is one thousand gigabytes or one trillion bytes.

Samsung V-NAND technology entails stacking memory cells vertically in a three-dimensional structure. Such structure eliminates performance and reliability issues from capacity limitations. The technology is used to store data on mobile phones and digital cameras.
