North Korea said on Thursday it hosted an academic conference on how to predict natural disasters on Mount Baekdu, the highest mountain on the Korean Peninsula.

The North’s official Korean Central News Agency(KCNA) said on Wednesday the conference was held in the day in Samjiyon County in Yanggang Province.

KCNA said scores of papers were submitted to the conference, adding they will help equip the country with advanced theories and equipment necessary for predicting and observing seismic and volcanic activities in the mountain.
