S. Korea's Consumer Prices Rise 2.2% in July

South Korea’s consumer prices rose two-point-two percent in July from a year earlier, according to government data.

The report from Statistics Korea on Tuesday attributed the rise in the country’s consumer price index to the rising costs of fruit and vegetables.

The price of farm products jumped nine-point-eight percent last month year-on-year, contributing to a rise of overall consumer prices by point-39 percentage points.

The price of electricity, gas and water increased eight percent, boosting the overall prices by point-29 percentage points.

A Statistics Korea official said that vegetable prices sharply increased due to heavy rain and the heat waves in July, while the prices of petroleum products have been decreasing since April.
