Tax Reform to Focus on Jobs, Income Redistribution and Finance Expansion

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Kim Dong-yeon says the government will seek tax reforms with focus on creating jobs, strengthening redistribution of income and expanding the active role of finance.

Kim made the remark on Thursday during a meeting between officials of the government and the ruling Democratic Party. Kim said he will unveil tax reform plans after thoroughly going over the ruling camp’s ideas and opinions.

Kim noted that the government has set the direction of its economic policies toward pursuing a sustainable and “people-centered” economy. He said that the government presented its five-year economic policy vision with the goal of creating the virtuous cycle of jobs, distribution and growth.

Kim said that the president, Cabinet members and ruling party officials had earlier reached a consensus on the need for the active role of finance for the sake of realizing key government tasks.

He stressed that tax revisions will be discussed with the intention of bringing about changes in the socioeconomic structure.
