A state committee tasked with gathering public opinion on the permanent suspension of two nuclear reactor projects will announce on Thursday details about how it plans to survey the public on the issue.
The committee on the Shin-Kori 5 and 6 reactors said on Wednesday that it will disclose its methods, including the size and timing of nationwide polls during its second meeting scheduled for Thursday.
The committee plans to first conduct national surveys, and then hundreds of randomly chosen people among the polled will be formed into a civil jury, which will have final say on the matter.
Late last month, the government decided to temporarily suspend the construction of the two reactors located in Ulsan, saying it will let the public decide on whether to move forward with the reactors’ construction through an up to three-month-long public discussion.
