S. Korea to Join International Efforts to Set 5G Standards

South Korea will join hands with the U.S., Japan, China and Europe to set international standards for fifth-generation(5G) wireless technology.

5G mobile networks are ten to 100 times faster than the current 4G technology, can transmit massive data at fast speeds and are integral to the spread of Internet of Things services.

China is known to have agreed to cooperate with South Korea, the U.S., Japan and Europe to develop common international 5G standards, giving up its previous plan to have its own version.

The key aim of the international standardization effort is to determine a frequency band and prevent interferences from other network services.
