Economically Inactive Population due to Childcare Drops to Record Low

The number of people who are economically inactive in South Korea due to childcare has dropped to a record low last month.

According to Statistics Korea on Tuesday, the number of economically inactive people aged 15 or older came to 15-point-eighth million last month, and one-point-24 million or seven-point-eight percent of them were not seeking jobs due to child rearing.

The figure marks the lowest since June 1999 when the nation started compiling related data.

Statistics Korea said the figure seems to be dropping as more women are returning to the job market and leaving their children in a nursery.
