The number of registered cars in South Korea topped 22 million as of the end of June which translates to one vehicle for every two people.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said on Saturday that the number of all registered cars marked 22-point-18 million at the end of June, up one-point-eight percent from six months ago.

The number surpassed ten million in 1997 and 20 million in November 2014.

Of the total registered cars, domestic cars accounted for 92 percent at 20-point-four million, while imported cars took up eight percent at one-point-52 million.
