Overnight Negotiations Expected to Set Minimum Wage

The Minimum Wage Commission is holding another session Saturday to set next year's minimum wage.

Ten rounds of meetings so far have failed to produce an agreement.

Labor groups are demanding a near 48 percent wage increase to nine-thousand-570 won from the current six-thousand-470 won. Management is pushing for a three-point-one percent increase to six-thousand-670 won.

Both sides are bringing revised proposals to the meeting scheduled for 3 p.m. at the government complex in Sejong City.

The Minimum Wage Commission is composed of 27 members, equally representing labor, management and professors and experts on public interests.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor is required to inform the public of the 2018 minimum wage rate by August fifth.
