Iraq's Ambassador to Seoul is calling on South Korea to participate actively in the reconstruction of the country's second largest city, Mosul, following its recent recapture from Islamic State(IS).

In an interview with KBS Thursday, Ambassador Wadee Al-Batti  said Mosul has rich human and natural resources that can offer opportunities to South Korean companies.

Mosul, in Northern Iraq, is surrounded by oil-rich ground and was once considered an economic capital connecting the country with Turkey and Syria. 

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi officially declared victory over Islamic State in Mosul on Sunday.
