The government says it will reflect sufficient public opinion before carrying out President Moon Jae-in’s pledge to scrap the country's nuclear-centered energy policy.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said on Wednesday that it will hear from concerned parties, including experts on public safety and environment, legal experts and civic groups, and hold public hearings on the government’s new policy on the provision of electricity to be announced later this year.
The move comes in response to criticism lodged by a group of professors with expertise on energy-related sectors that stand against the president's new plan.
The professors held a press conference earlier in the day, calling on the government to suspend the anti-nuclear energy policy and set up a long-term plan on energy provision through consultations with experts and the public.
