Foreign Films Attract Record No. of Moviegoers in Year's First Half

The number of moviegoers watching foreign films has hit an all-time high in the first half of the year.

The total number of moviegoers from January to June reached 97-million-285-thousand-520 according to the figures released by the Korean Film Council Wednesday, up three percent from the same period last year.

Of the total, 55-point-66 million people chose to see non-Korean films, up ten percent from the previous year.

Korean films posted a five percent decrease at 41-point-61 million people.

The council attributed the strength of foreign films to a series of box-office hits of Hollywood blockbusters such as "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" and "Wonder Woman".
