S. Korea to Suspend Construction of 2 Nuclear Reactors

President Moon Jae-in's administration has decided to suspend construction of two nuclear reactors and seek a public consensus on their future.

Minister Hong Nam-ki of the Office for Government Policy Coordination says the Shin Kori-5 and 6 reactors are 28-point-eight percent completed as of the end of May, and that permanent suspension of the construction would cost about two-point-six trillion won.

In a ceremony last Monday to proclaim the shutdown of the Kori-1 nuclear reactor, Moon vowed to abolish the country’s nuclear-centered energy policy and move toward a nuclear-free era.
