The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will select candidate sites for designating more national industrial complexes.
The additional designation is in line with the government’s key policy to prepare for the fourth Industrial Revolution, encourage business start-ups and increase jobs in new industries.
Nine city and provincial governments made a bid to have their regions designated as national industrial complexes during the May presidential election. However, the ministry will now receive applications from all local governments.
A ministry official said Tuesday that despite the nine local governments’ designation requests, the ministry will make selections after collecting opinions from other local governments and conducting preliminary feasibility studies.
Currently, South Korea has 42 national industrial complexes that are run and managed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
