Another N. Korean Soldier Crosses Border to Defect

Another North Korean soldier has defected to South Korea via the inter-Korean border.

Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff said Friday that a North Korean soldier defected to a South Korean guard post(GP) along the central front at around 9:30 p.m. The soldier is in custody and the military is working to investigate why and how he defected.

This follows the defection of a North Korean soldier just ten days ago on June 13th in the same vicinity. In that incident, the defection occurred at 7:55 p.m. through a frontline Army fifth Division guard post.

The soldier is known to have told South Korean authorities that he decided to defect after listening to propaganda loudspeaker broadcasts from the South.

Earlier this month, two North Korean sailors, who were rescued by the South after drifting in the East Sea, also expressed their wish to defect.
