52 Biz Leaders to Accompany Pres. Moon on His US Trip

The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry(KCCI) has announced a list of 52 business leaders who will accompany President Moon Jae-in on his first U.S. trip next week.

The list includes high-ranking officials from ten conglomerates, 14 from mid-sized companies, 23 from small-sized firms, two from public companies, two from Korean-American businesses and KCCI Chairman Park Yong-maan. Mid- and small-sized company officials account for more than two-thirds of the business delegation.

Given that the upcoming trip is Moon’s first overseas travel since he has assumed office, the business delegation includes leaders of major conglomerates. Among them are Hyundai Motor Vice Chairman Chung Eui-sun, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, LG Electronics Vice Chairman Koo Bon-joon, Doosan Group Chairman Park Jeong-won, Hanjin Group Chairman Cho Yang-ho, CJ Group Chairman Sohn Kyung-shik and LS Group Chairman Koo Ja-yeol.

From Samsung Group, Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman and CEO Kwon Oh-hyun was included in the list instead of Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong. Lee is behind bars being investigated on charges he offered bribes to former President Park Geun-hye in return for support in his succession at the conglomerate.

This time around, the KCCI led the process of selecting and unveiling the list of business leaders who’d accompany the president on his U.S. trip. In previous governments, the task was led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
