Sample Thai Eggs Arrive in S. Korea

Roughly two-thousand Thai eggs arrived in South Korea on Wednesday morning.

Imported as samples for quarantine inspections, the eggs will not be distributed in the market.

The South Korean government decided to import foreign eggs in order to curb a price hike amid an avian influenza spread since last November. South Korea imported eggs from the U.S. in January for the first time.

Private importers plan to bring in approximately two million eggs from Thailand weekly starting this week.

An Agriculture Ministry official said that eggs will also be imported from Denmark or the Netherlands if necessary.
