Exports Rebound since Mid June

South Korea’s exports have been rebounding from a decline since the middle of this month.

The Korea Customs Service said on Wednesday that compared to the same period last year, the nation’s exports increased 24-point-four percent between June first and 20th, following a 12-point-two percent drop in the first ten days of this month. The growth was driven by a jump in the shipments of the nation’s flagship export items such as ships, semiconductors and petroleum products.

If the upward trend continues, the country’s monthly exports will increase for an eighth consecutive month for the first time in five-and-a-half years since December 2011.

Shipments to Vietnam jumped 57-point-seven percent, to Japan 22-point-two percent and to China seven-point-four percent. In contrast, exports to the U.S. and the Middle East dropped by eight-point-four percent and three-point-one percent, respectively.
