N. Korean Defects to S. Korea

A North Korean man defected to South Korea on Sunday after crossing the border.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said that the North Korean was spotted at the northern part of the mouth of the Han River in Gimpo, west of Seoul at around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The military is questioning him over why and how he defected to the South.

His defection marks the second in just a week.

A North Korean solder defected to South Korea by crossing the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) Tuesday.

It is the first time since September last year that a North Korean soldier defected by crossing the MDL.

Earlier this month, two of four North Korean sailors, who were rescued in South Korean waters, expressed their wishes to defect to South Korea.
