N. Korea Urges S. Korea to Take Steps to Ease Military Tensions

North Korea has urged South Korea to swiftly take measures to ease heightened military tensions between the two Koreas.

The Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, a North Korean organization dealing with South Korean affairs, made the demand on Wednesday ahead of the 17th anniversary of the June 15th South-North Joint Declaration in 2000.

The committee said that Seoul’s pursuit of dialogue while putting pressure against Pyongyang is a self-deception.

It claimed that if South Korea sincerely wants peace, it should take steps to block the U.S.’ aggressive and hostile acts against the North rather than taking issue with Pyongyang’s self-defensive nuclear weapons.
