Fair Trade Watchdog Ensures Predictability in Conglomerate Reform

The newly appointed head of the Fair Trade Commission(FTC) has ensured that the government will not rush ahead with its conglomerate reform initiative.

Following his inauguration ceremony on Wednesday, FTC Chairman Kim Sang-jo addressed concerns that a radical reform drive could dampen the business sector.

He said that the reform will be carried out in a rational, predictable manner based on precise surveys on the industrial situation, adding that the president was accordingly advised about the speed of the initiative.

The watchdog chief said that he will not push the nation's top four conglomerates into corners.

Kim had previously said that it would be ineffective to apply the same criteria for the top four conglomerates as the rest of the fortune 30 businesses, sparking leading conglomerates to worry.
