Bank of Korea Hints Exit from Expansive Monetary Policy

The Bank of Korea(BOK) has hinted at wrapping up its expansive monetary policy.

In his speech marking the 67th founding anniversary of the central bank on Monday, BOK Governor Lee Ju-yeol discussed the possible policy shift.

While noting the still low inflationary pressure, Lee said that the central bank must review the possible need for adjusting the extent of its monetary easing should the economy continue to improve.

The BOK chief predicted that this year’s economic growth will exceed an outlook announced in April due to increased exports and investments and the gradual recovery in domestic consumption.

The BOK lowered the benchmark interest rate to the all-time low of one-point-25 percent in June last year, and has kept it unchanged for a year.
