S. Korea's Exports Plunge 12.2% in First 10 Days of June

South Korea's exports plunged more than 12 percent in the first ten days of June from a year earlier.

According to data by the Korea Customs Service on Sunday, the country’s outbound shipments reached 12-point-two billion U.S. dollars during the cited period, down 12-point-two percent year-on-year.

The customs services said that the decrease is attributed to the fact that ship exports greatly increased in early June of last year, adding the recent data does not indicate exports are shrinking.

Exports of semiconductor chips surged 32 percent on-year during the cited period, while ship exports plunged 77 percent on-year.

Statistics Korea expects the overall exports for June will not be weak, projecting them to post eighth straight month of growth.
