S. Korean Committee Accepts N. Korea's Wishes to Hold Event in Pyongyang

A South Korean civic group says it has accepted North Korea's request to hold a commemorative joint event in Pyongyang rather than Gaeseong.

The South Korean Committee for the Joint Implementation of the June 15th Summit Declaration wants to celebrate the upcoming 17th anniversary of the declaration signing.

The committee had initially proposed Gaeseong as the venue reportedly out of respect for the wishes of the South Korean government.

The committee still needs to get Seoul's permission to travel to the North for the event, something committee members say they will formally request after further consultations with the North.
