Advisory Panel Working on Minimum Wage Raise

President Moon Jae-in’s de facto transition team says that it is devising a detailed road map for raising the minimum wage to ten-thousand won or eight-point-94 dollars per hour by 2020, as promised by the president during his election campaign.

Park Kwang-on, spokesman for the State Affairs Planning Advisory Committee, announced the move in a news briefing on Monday.

The spokesman said that supplementary measures will have to be discussed to prevent small business owners from facing heavier financial burdens caused by the rise.

Park said that currently, the Minimum Wage Commission remains crippled with the resignation of all the representatives from the labor sector. He added that the de facto transition team hopes that the commission will resume its operations and function normally.
