President Moon Jae-in has vowed to make sure that every penny the government spends will contribute to creating employment, saying that the presidential office will become an incubator for jobs.
The president made the vow on Sunday in his official greeting posted on the Web site of the new presidential committee on job creation, which opened on Sunday.
Moon said that he established the committee in order to fulfill his promise to become a president focused on the creation of jobs, and he assumed the chairmanship of the committee under judgment that the government must be the largest employer and job creator.
He added that jobs equate to growth and welfare, and people need to be happy when working, stressing that a place where a person works is where a happy life begins.
Moon said that display panels on jobs installed in his office at Cheong Wa Dae remind him of workers and entrepreneurs whom he met. Furthermore, he added that both postmen working long hours and young people preparing for civil service exams desperately want job security and work free from all anxiety.
The president pledged to increase quality jobs, reduce working hours and non-regular workers and improve the quality of employment, promising benefits and incentives for companies that increase jobs and abide by welfare and labor laws.
He vowed to make South Korea a welfare state in which young people dream and plan for their futures, where middle-aged people lead stable lives and the elderly enjoy their lives, adding he would carefully listen to the people to that end.
Moon ordered the setup of the presidential committee on jobs in his first executive order issued the day he was inaugurated on May tenth.
