KOSPI Gains 6.4% in May, Highest in the World

The Korean stock market hit five-year highs this week, building on the momentum of last month's rally.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index or KOSPI closed at two-thousand-347-point-38 on Wednesday, the last day of May, up six-point-four percent from a month earlier. It's the highest monthly growth in five years and four months since seven-point-one percent recorded in early 2012.

The Seoul index was the top performer among major advanced and emerging markets last month.

Along with the surge of KOSPI, market capitalization also rose six-point-two percent from the end of April to one-point-519 quadrillion won as of May 31st, or about one-point-three trillion U.S. dollars.
