S. Korean Economic Growth Hovers over 1% for 1st Time in 6 Quarters

South Korea has posted an economic growth hovering over one percent for the first time in six quarters.

The Bank of Korea on Friday estimated the nation’s gross domestic product(GDP) has grown one-point-one percent in the January-March period, up by zero-point-two percentage points from its initial estimate announced in April.

Since posting a one-point-three percent growth in the third quarter of 2015, the GDP had grown by less than one percent for the five consecutive quarters.

The country’s gross savings rate stood at 36-point-nine percent in the first quarter, up by one-point-one percentage points from the previous quarter. The gross investment rate edged up by zero-point-six percentage points to 30-point-five percent.

Meanwhile, South Korea’s gross national income(GNI) was tallied at 403-point-nine trillion won in the first quarter, marking a growth of two-point-seven percent from the quarter earlier.
