The Ministry of Unification has approved a South Korean civic organization's request for permission to contact their counterparts from North Korea.
The South Korean Committee for the Joint Implementation of the June 15th Summit Declaration plans to send a delegation to an event in North Korea, which will mark the 17th anniversary of the landmark inter-Korean declaration.
The committee will seek a government permit for its visit to the North, once the size of its delegation and details of the commemorative event are determined through preliminary contact.
On Friday, the ministry approved a request by a local civilian humanitarian aid group for permission to contact North Koreans to discuss joint disinfection against malaria. It marked the Moon Jae-in administration’s first approval of such a request since its launch last month.
