8 Old Coal-fired Power Generators to be Temporarily Shut down in June

Eight old coal-fired power generators will be shut down for a month beginning from Thursday in line with President Moon Jae-in’s order.

As a step to reduce fine dust, Moon ordered on May 15th that coal-fired power generators that are more than 30 years old be shut down for a whole month in June.

Starting from next year, the government will regularize the temporary suspension of such power generators’ operations for four months between March and June.

The temporary shutdowns will affect Boryeong One and Two, Seocheon One and Two, Samcheonpo One and Two, and Yeongdong One and Two generators.

With ages ranging from 32 to 44 years old, their combined power generation amounts to two-thousand-845 megawatts.

Honam One and Two generators will not be shut down this time to maintain a stable power supply in the local region, although they have been in operation for 44 years.
