Public Firms to Make 30,000 Irregular Workers Full-time

Public corporations under the Ministry of Commerce Industry and Energy will push to convert 30-thousand irregular workers into full-time employees.

The ministry said Saturday that 41 public firms and semi-public agencies held a special meeting Friday and discussed the transition.

The Korea Electric Power Corporation employs 77-hundred irregular workers, and the Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Company employs 73-hundred. The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency employs about 500.

Individual firms will decide on how to make the transition depending on respective situations.

For instance, the Korea Testing Laboratory plans to make many contractors full-time staff by hiring them directly.
