Revision to Require Redundant Crew to Leave Overbooked Flight

The government announced new regulations for overbooked domestic flights, ensuring passengers keep their seats until nonessential airline crew leave the plane.

While requiring South Korean airliners to release their crew first, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said next in line will be passengers who were allowed to board without having confirmed their reservations.

Families accompanying children, pregnant women and people with disabilities will be excluded from having to get off the plane.

In addition, airlines won't be allowed to reject providing assistance to passengers with disabilities.

The new regulations will apply to domestic routes from next month. Rules for international flights will be revised in the second half of the year.
