Gov’t Provides Emergency Water Supply for Looming Drought

Farmers are on alert due to a looming drought on the Korean Peninsula.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said on Monday that it has provided four billion won in emergency water supply funds to some regions in Gyeonggi and South Chungcheong provinces.

The ministry said that this year’s nationwide average precipitation stands at 155 millimeters, just 60 percent of the level of 259 millimeters recorded in previous years.

The average water reserve rate at agricultural reservoirs across the nation is 72 percent of their capacity, lower than the 81 percent recorded in previous years.
