Human Rights Watchdog Holds N. Korea Symposium in London

South Korea's human rights watchdog says it hosted an international symposium on North Korean human rights in London on Thursday.

The symposium held at the conference venue Central Hall Westminster addressed three major topics: information infiltration into North Korea related to its rights issue, improving the rights of North Korean children using UN mechanisms, and ways to hold perpetrators of crimes against humanity accountable.

In opening remarks, National Human Rights Commission Chairman Lee Sung-ho said the human rights situation in North Korea is very serious across the board but the rights of women, children and the physically challenged are even more vulnerable.

He said it's regrettable that continued international calls to improve human rights conditions in the North are not being heard.
