Auto Exports up, Domestic Sales down

South Korean auto exports grew last month but sales at home remained sluggish.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said Tuesday that the nation’s auto exports jumped seven percent in April compared to last year.

South Korea shipped more than 242-thousand cars last month thanks to increased exports of eco-friendly and large models.

Exports grew in most regions such as Europe and the Middle East. However, shipments to North America and Asia decreased three-point-three percent and four-point-six percent, respectively, due to a stronger trend of trade protectionism.

However, domestic sales dropped three-point-one percent to roughly 153-thousand-600 units.
