The government is looking to import eggs from Denmark and Thailand as egg prices are on the rise again.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said on Wednesday that it recently held a meeting to check supply and demand of key farm products and discuss measures to manage the current situation.
The ministry said prices of vegetables are lower than previous years as supplies recovered to normal levels, however, prices of some processed products such as ramyeon(Korean instant noodle), chicken and eggs are at higher levels compared to previous years as a result of a massive outbreak of avian influenza.
The country’s egg supply is at 85 percent level of demand as of May.
To increase egg supply, the government plans to support egg importers with transportation costs, while rebuilding the country’s egg production.
