S. Korea Warns N. Korea against Conducting Nuke Test

The Unification Ministry has warned North Korea against conducting a new nuclear test.

Ministry spokesman Lee Duk-haeng delivered the warning in response to North Korean Ambassador to the U.K. Choe Il’s remarks in an interview with British news channel Sky News on Tuesday. Choe said that his country will go ahead with its sixth nuclear test at the time and place of its leader's choosing.

Lee said that conducting a nuclear test in times like this would be a very foolish act.

The spokesman noted new South Korean President Moon Jae-in’s previous warning that inter-Korean dialogue and all other issues between South and North Korea will not proceed if the North carries out a nuclear test.

Lee said that the North Korean ambassador’s remarks are largely similar to the position the regime has maintained since its fifth nuclear test and added that it doesn’t appear another North Korean nuclear test is imminent.
