S. Korean Military Dubious of UN's N. Korean SLBM Assessment

South Korean military is dubious of the recent UN assessment that North Korea is close to building a submarine that can simultaneously fire multiple ballistic missiles.

A military official on Friday revealed a cautious stance, saying that the North is currently test-firing submarine-launched ballistic missiles from Gorae-class submarines but more analysis is required for the conclusion.

The Washington Free Beacon on Thursday raised the possibility that a Gorae-class submarine has been remodeled to launch multiple SLBMs, quoting a UN report drafted by a panel of experts.

It is however confirmed that the North currently possesses Gorae-class submarines with single launch tubes, and is said to be building a new three-thousand-ton submarine that can load more than three SLBMs.
