Finance Minister Yoo Meets World Bank Chief and Indonesian Counterpart

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Yoo Il-ho on Thursday met with the World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim and Indonesia’s finance minister in Washington where he is set to attend a G-20 finance ministers' meeting.

According to the Finance Ministry, Yoo met with Kim at the World Bank Group headquarters and agreed to strengthen the activities and role of the World Bank's Korea Office.

Yoo and Kim also shared the view that the World Bank’s South Korean office must play the role of an “operation hub” that would directly plan and support development projects in the Asia-Pacific region.

The two officials also agreed to advance the South Korea office by specializing in green growth and financial stability and supporting fragile states which are all areas that could benefit from combining South Korea’s strengths with the World Bank’s expertise.

After meeting with Kim, Yoo held talks with his Indonesian counterpart, Sri Mulyani Indrawati, and discussed ways to boost bilateral cooperation.
