The combined domestic sales of five Korean automakers surpassed 40 trillion won last year for the first time.
According to data by Hyundai Motor, Kia Motors, GM Korea, SsangYong Motor and Renault Samsung Motors on Sunday, Korean automakers sold 41-point-one trillion won worth of vehicles in the domestic market last year, up seven-point-seven percent from a year earlier.
The figures for Hyundai and Kia marked 19-point-three trillion won and 12-point-five trillion won, respectively, both exceeding ten trillion won.
GM Korea and Renault Samsung topped the three trillion won mark for the first time.
Among imported cars, Mercedes-Benz was the most popular foreign automaker, with its sales jumping 20 percent to three-point-seven trillion won last year.
However, sales of Audi and Volkswagen cars halved to one-point-three trillion won, and Porsche Korea saw their sales drop ten percent last year.
