US Keeps S. Korea, China on Currency Monitoring List

The United States has kept South Korea on a list of countries closely monitored for its currency practices.

On Friday, the U.S. Treasury Department issued its first half-term currency report under the Trump administration. Other major trade partners remain on the list, including Germany, Japan, Switzerland and Taiwan.

In breaking with a campaign promise, Trump did not designate China a currency manipulator, but kept it on the watch list as well.

Analysts say Trump flipped on that promise to enlist Beijing's help in dealing with North Korea.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, Trump said China has not been manipulating its currency for months and is not a currency manipulator.
