Increased Exports, Consumption Point to Recovery

The Finance Ministry says that production and investment are continuously seeing improvements as exports have posted growth for five straight months.

In its latest monthly Green Book released on Tuesday, the government said exports in March surged nearly 14 percent year-on-year to stand at nearly 49 billion U.S. dollars thanks to exports of petroleum products and semiconductors.

The report said that consumption has also rebounded, with retail sales climbing three-point-two percent from the previous month thanks to the overall growth in sales of durable and non-durable goods.

The latest assessment is a turnaround from the March report, in which the government said that the sluggish domestic consumption prevented the economy from picking up.
