The U.S. government has made a positive assessment on the Free Trade Agreement between South Korea and the U.S.
In an annual report on trade barriers last Thursday, the US Trade Representative(USTR) said the KORUS FTA has strengthened and expanded U.S. ties with a key strategic partner in Asia and improved South Korea’s business environment for American exporters.
The report said that the trade volume of the two countries has increased from 126-point-five billion dollars in 2011 to 146-point-eight billion dollars in 2015.
It also showed that the U.S. service exports to South Korea increased to 20-point-five billion dollars in 2015, up 23-point-one percent from 2011.
In a previous report published on March first, the USTR had questioned the deal, saying it was necessary for Washington to review existing trade deals, including the KORUS FTA.
