The Indian government has approved the procurement of 100 self-propelled howitzers made by South Korean Hanwha Techwin.
According to Britain-based military media outlet IHS Jane's 360 on Sunday, the Indian government approved the deal worth 646 million U.S. dollars, or around 720 billion won last Wednesday.
Quoting Indian officials the report said that Hanwha Techwin will build the K-9 Vajra (Thunderbolt) self-propelled howitzers(SPHs) together with its Indian partner, Larsen and Toubro, in India. Around 50 percent of the components will be procured from India.
The deal comes as South Korea and India are expanding their cooperation on diplomacy and defense areas. Last month, the two countries agreed to launch a two plus two meeting bringing together vice foreign and defense ministers from the two countries on a regular basis.
