Divers to Launch Underwater Search of Seabed for Missing Bodies

Divers will launch an underwater search of the seabed on Sunday in the waters off Jindo Island, where the Sewol ferry sank three years ago.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said that 50 divers from Shanghai Salvage in charge of the salvage operation will comb a 32-thousand square meter ocean floor for the next two months to search for the remains of those killed in the ferry sinking.

The ministry had set up a fence 200 meter wide, 160 meters long and three meters high around the seabed to prevent anything from drifting out of the ferry during the salvaging operation.

The fenced area will be divided into 40 sections, and divers will search each section when the currents are weak. After the divers make their search, sonar will scan the area.
