BOK Head: Currency Manipulator Designation Unlikely but Seoul Must Remain Alert

The central bank chief said South Korea must not lower its guard against the possibility of the U.S. designating Korea as a currency manipulator.

However, speaking in parliament on Thursday, Bank of Korea Governor Lee Ju-yeol said it remains unchanged that the designation is unlikely based on the U.S. Trade Promotion Authority laws.

Lee said the U.S. treasury secretary did emphasize the transparency of each country's foreign exchange policies during the recent Group of 20 finance ministers and central bankers meeting. The governor added that Seoul therefore must not lower its guard.
