Korean Air, Delta to Operate Trans-Pacific Joint Venture

Korean Air signed a memorandum of understanding with the U.S.’ Delta Air Lines on Wednesday to operate a joint venture in their trans-Pacific network.

The two airlines won’t create a separate company for the venture, but they will share the costs and revenues on trans-Pacific flights.

Under the deal, subject to regulatory approval, the airlines will also coordinate schedules to link some 250 cities in the Americas with 80 Asian cities and jointly sell tickets.

Passengers will receive equivalent services in both airlines, such as advance seat assignment, automatic ticketing and mileage upgrade.

Korean Air said operating joint ventures between airlines began in 2009 for Atlantic routes linking the Americas with Europe and has now become prevalent.
