Sewol to Leave for Mokpo around Thursday as Scheduled

The Sewol ferry will begin heading to a port in Mokpo on the southwestern tip of Korea around Thursday, however the exact departure date will be determined by weather conditions.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said that the four wing towers of the semisubmersible ship onto which the Sewol is being fixed must be removed before the departure, but currently two of them are left.

If the semisubmersible carrying the ferry leaves for Mokpo around Thursday as scheduled, it will sail 105 kilometers for eight hours.

Once the semisubmersible arrives in Mokpo on Friday morning, the Sewol will be separated from it and moved onto land, while seawater and oil mixture are drained from inside of the ferry.
